Chinese meteorological authorities issue first major alert this year for mountain torrents

China’s weather monitoring departments issued warnings for thunderstorms, floods, mountain torrents and geological hazards on Sunday, urging local authorities to strengthen real-time monitoring and early warnings and carry out preventive public evacuations.
The National Meteorological Center warned of torrential rains in eastern, southern and southwestern regions of China from 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday, with a high risk of flooding in eastern provinces. Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangxi in eastern China.
The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration have issued this year’s first red alert – the main alert for mountain streams, warning that there is a strong possibility of flood disasters mountains in the northeastern part of Jiangxi (eastern China) and the western part of Zhejiang (eastern China).
According to China’s four-level color-coded weather warning system, red alert represents the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
Yellow alerts of geological danger have been issued in Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Jiangxi (eastern China), Hubei and Hunan (central China), as well as in the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangdong. and Guangxi (southern China). East China’s Jiangxi issued the first-highest alert level for landslides and mudslides on Sunday after the long-lasting heavy rainstorm from Sunday to Tuesday.
Five villagers were killed in Liuzhou in Guangxi after a wooden building collapsed due to heavy rain. Liuzhou raised flood warnings on Sunday as downpours are expected to continue.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent task forces and experts to Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi for flood prevention and rescue with relief supplies on the way, and called on all efforts to protect the public in flood-affected areas.
Fujian evacuated more than 210,000 people on Sunday. 946 people from Luxi county in Hunan were evacuated on Sunday.
