KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 – Celebrity Jacky Cheung has been slammed by Chinese social media users for failing to mention the word “homeland” in his congratulatory post to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China.

The 61-year-old omitted the word during a clip aired by Chinese broadcaster CCTV-6 on July 1. 163.com reported.

To add fire to the fuel, Cheung ended his post by saying Xiang Gang Jia You (Support Hong Kong).

After the clip aired, the comments section was abuzz with social media users accusing him of being unpatriotic.

The clip was later deleted by the channel after negative comments outnumbered positive ones.

Cheung then issued a statement to respond to the controversy in which he clarified that he was the one who loves the country.

“I am a Chinese who loves Hong Kong”, sina.com reported.
