Filming on Friday and Saturday was scheduled in the Angeleno Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, where Vin Diesel’s character lives in the films.

However, neighborhood protesters gathered in the streets on Friday to voice their objections to the film glorifying street racing, Deadline reports.

Some fans of the franchise have obviously gone to the neighborhood and engaged in dangerous car maneuvers such as donuts or burnouts.

Organizations Street Racing Kills and Streets Are For Everyone organized the protests after local residents came into contact with them.

An Angeleno Heights resident called street racing “super, super, super dangerous” this Friday and showed protesters a photo of a car crash.

“Are we going to wait for this to happen to one of our neighbours, our children, before someone shouts for action to take place, or are we going to do it before it happens?” she said, addressing the crowd.

Other protesters, carrying pictures of people who died in crashes related to the issue, marched and shouted, “Street racing kills.”

The franchise’s cast hasn’t escaped political controversy either. Last year, John made a video apologizing to Chinese audiences in Mandarin for calling Taiwan a country.

At the time, the ninth Fast And Furious film was theatrically released in China, where it bowed out more than a month before its US release.

F9: The Fast Saga grossed $135 million in its opening weekend in China, according to Hong Kong South China Morning Post.

It became the first American film to earn $100 million in its first weekend in China since pre-COVID Avengers: Endgame, the second highest-grossing film of all time.
