‘Russia will do THREE things’ Expert explains how ‘Putin can’t allow Ukraine to go West’ | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

A potential Russian invasion of Ukraine was broken down by a British military expert before warning the Kremlin it could mount an operation against Keiv at any time. Good Morning Britain has heard how the Russian Armed Forces will seek to achieve ‘essential factors for success in 20th century warfare’.

Major General Chip Chapman told GMB: “The first is air control.

“So the Russians are going to pulverize the airfields in Ukraine and make sure they have air supremacy.

“The second and third thing are actions of surprise and shock, that’s where you have the psychological thesis of people on the border.

He continued: “That’s what is the key variable because I think they will do three things first shock and surprise, try to get them to Kiev, 60 miles from the border with Belarus very , very quickly.

“If they can do that, they can circle, and then the key variable that you never know how to talk about in wartime is what is the government’s view and how has it reacted?

“Are they going to collapse like they did in Afghanistan? And what is the opinion of people will they resist.

“If you can overcome those two variables through surprise and shock action from a Russian point of view, you have a chance if you don’t, and you’re going to have war after war, which will be like the Afghanistan.”

Major General Chipman added: “[Putin] will not allow Ukraine to pass into Western orbit”
